ACCEPTING SOCIAL REALITY THROUGH COMEDY A GENETIC-STRUCTURALISM APPROACH ON OSCAR WILDE’S COMEDY AN IDEAL HUSBAND

Abstract


Truthfulness as a part of moral values is always actual to discuss. As the social structure becomes more complex recently, people become more critical in responding the dynamics of morality within their society. One of the critical responses regarding this matter is by delivering Comedy. Amusing and light  Comedy, is one of the exposing devices for accepting social reality. 

This study examines Oscar Wilde’s drama An Ideal Husband  to investigate how Comedy, in Drama, through its particular elements such as satire, ironies and plot, serves a discussion and a critical response about actual and factual social reality. The study applies Genetic-Structuralism Approach in analyzing the drama script. In conducting the research,  this study is a library research. It includes document analyzes and descriptive-qualitative.
