Abstract


This study focuses on equivalence meaning that occur in the bilingual text Pak Banjir Bertaubat and its translated text Mr.Banjir repentance. This study aims to find out the types of the equaivalence meaning that occur in the bilingual text Pak Banjir Bertaubat and its translated text Mr.Banjir repentance.This study was a descriptive qualitative research. The data sources were bilingual text of Pak Banjir Bertaubat and its translated text Mr.Banjir repentance. The instrument was the researcher herself. The researcher analyzed the occurrences of meaning equivalence in the bilingual text. The types of the meaning equaivalence were complete, increased, and decreased meaning and the non-equivalent meaning include no meaning and different meaning. The results of this study show that there are many occurrences of equivalence meaning consisting complete, increased, and decreased meaning and the non-equivalent meaning include no meaning and different meaning. The complete meaning occurs 205 times or 84.7%, increased  meaning occurs 8 times or 3.4%, decreased meaning occurs 22 times or 9.1%, no meaning occurs 6 times or 2.4%, and different meaning occurs 1 times or 0.4%. Complete meaning has the highest frequency, in other words, the translators successfully transfer the meaning or the message from the source text into the target text.
